Standards: EA.3AH.7-8.1-5
Objectives:
1.The students will examine evidence and the impact of European explores who visited and claimed land in what is now Arkansas.
Create a 6x6 chart, make sure you include information about de Soto, de la Harpe, La Salle, Joleit, Marquette, & de Tonti!~ you need rows labeled who, when, where, what, and Evidence!
2. Students will discuss the improvement of highways, business growth, population increases, and conservation movements within the state.
3. Discuss the Legend of the Razorback.
4.Discuss and research why tree rings are important to historians.
5. Discuss Indian ceremonies and their meaning.
2/4 Starter: Read Chapter 3 pages 52-61

2/5 Starter:
What did the Indians make Effigy pots look like?
Create your own Effigy pot!
Wash your hands with soap and lots of water to remove the salt dough!
2/7 Starter: Create a new document in Google drive named De Soto story. Write a creative paragraph about De Soto's expedition. Pretend you are on the expedition with him and his men and tell about 1 day of your adventure. We will continue the story tomorrow/next week!

Your next Arkansas Photo assignment is due on March 31, 2014. The assignment is a photo of you outside somewhere in Arkansas with a paragraph about the photo. ( I will grade this paragraph for grammar and content! Complete sentences are a must!!! I will give you a printed sheet to glue your picture and paragraph on to. *10 Bonus points* if your picture is of you at an Arkansas State Park!
